radicals and extremists trying to
destroy our social unity? Does all the
shouting and aggressiveness
turn you off? |
Do you miss calm,
rational discussion of the complex
political, religious, and social issues of
our time? Do you wonder why moderate voices
can’t be heard any more?

Well,
don’t expect the shouters and extremists to
quit it. They get fame and fortune, and
sometimes political office, from their
radical speech. There is no reason for them
to be moderate. But without moderation,
then our destiny is enduring division and
polarization.
There
is an alternative. If people endorse radical
speech, then they are engaging in “radical
hearing.” But people would be
surprised to find out how badly radical
hearing affects their personal decision
